Terms and conditions

Who we are

The Quiet Isles is run by QUITE RIGHT LIMITED, a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 17053815. Registered office: Mansion House Lodge, Canynge Road, Bristol, England, BS8 3LJ.

Email: team@thequietisles.com

In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean QUITE RIGHT LIMITED. "You" means the adult who holds the account.

These terms

By creating an account you agree to these terms. Please also read our privacy policy and cookie policy.

If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights.

Accounts

  • You must be 18 or over to create an account. Accounts are for parents, carers and other grown-ups.
  • Children use the service through a grown-up's account and with their supervision. Children should not create accounts.
  • Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
  • The details you give us must be accurate. Tell us if you think someone else has used your account.

Books and subscriptions

A subscription costs US$9.99 a month. It includes every book in the Isles while it is active. Lifetime access costs US$49.99, paid once. It includes every book in the Isles, including new books, for as long as we run the service. Prices include any tax we have to charge.

You pay on the website, and our payment provider Stripe takes the payment. There are no purchases inside the app. If you have a discount code, you can enter it at checkout.

Your subscription renews every month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Account, then Subscription, then Manage billing. You keep access until the end of the month you have paid for. If you buy lifetime access while you have a subscription, the subscription ends at the end of the month you have paid for.

If you change your mind within 14 days of first subscribing or buying lifetime access, email team@thequietisles.com for a full refund. A refund of lifetime access ends it.

If a payment fails, Stripe will try again. Access stops if the subscription stays unpaid.

If we change the price, we will email you at least 30 days before the new price applies. You can cancel before then.

Schools plan

The Schools plan costs US$499 a year and renews every year until the school cancels. It is for schools and similar organisations.

  • The school creates accounts for its students, one at a time or from a file of email addresses and passwords. The school must be allowed to use those email addresses, and it is responsible for the passwords it sets and shares.
  • Students can open every book in the Isles while the plan is active. If the plan ends, their accounts stay, but the books that need a subscription are locked until the school renews.
  • The school can change a student's password or remove a student at any time. A removed student keeps their account without the school's books.
  • The school can cancel from its School page, then Manage billing. Access continues until the end of the year paid for.

Referral programme

Any account holder can join the referral programme. Members get a referral link and a referral code. A member can choose their own code if no one else has it. If they choose a new code, the old link and code stop working.

  • A friend is referred when they sign up through a member's link, or enter the member's code before they first pay. The referral is fixed when the friend first pays for a subscription, lifetime access or a Schools plan.
  • The member earns a share of each payment the friend makes in their first 12 months. The standard share is 20%. We may agree a different share with a member; a change applies to payments made after it.
  • The share is worked out on the amount the friend actually pays, not counting tax. Earnings are in US dollars.
  • Earnings become payable 14 days after each payment. If a payment is refunded or disputed, we reduce or remove the earnings for it.
  • A referral code does not give the friend a discount. Discount codes are separate.
  • We will pay earnings through Stripe once payouts open. Stripe will ask for details before it can pay you. You are responsible for any tax on your earnings.
  • You cannot refer yourself or your own household. We may remove earnings that come from misuse, and pause or end a link.
  • When you share your link or code in public, say that you earn from it, for example with #ad. Do not send spam or run ads that bid on our name.
  • We may change or end the programme. Changes do not affect earnings from payments made before the change.

Using the service

We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the service and read its books for your household's private, non-commercial use.

You must not:

  • copy, share, sell, rent or publicly show the books, pictures, music or recordings;
  • try to get around access controls, or take apart the app, except where the law allows it;
  • use the service to break the law, or in a way that harms the service or other people;
  • use automated tools to access the service or collect its content.

Our content

The stories, characters, pictures, animations, narration, music, the app and the website belong to us or to the people who license them to us. The Quiet Isles name and moth logo are ours. These terms do not give you any rights to them beyond the licence above.

Availability and changes

  • We work to keep the service available. It may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons outside our control.
  • We may update the app, the books and the website.
  • Books you have downloaded can be read offline. Signing in, downloading and saving progress need an internet connection.

Faulty digital content

If a book or the app is faulty, tell us at team@thequietisles.com. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you are entitled to a repair or replacement, and in some cases a refund.

Our liability

  • We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
  • We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses. The service is for household use only.
  • If faulty digital content we supply damages a device or other digital content you own, we will repair the damage or pay you compensation.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

Closing your account

  • You can ask us to close your account at any time. Email team@thequietisles.com from the address on the account.
  • We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Unless there is a good reason not to, we will tell you first.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when our prices or the law change. If a change affects you significantly, we will email you before it applies. The latest version is always on this page.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with anything, email team@thequietisles.com. We usually reply within 5 working days.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring claims in your local courts. You keep the protection of any mandatory consumer law where you live.
